Off on a tangent, my HELTEC Wireless Stick was not showing up in the Arduino IDE. I went through various steps to add the board in the board manager, but the real clue was that the Windows system would beep when I plugged the board in, but no ports showed up in the IDE. When you get this kind of behavior it is time to dig deeper on the system.
I went into the Deice Manager (more details to come) and there was an error. Removing the board from the USB port made this alert go away.

I got drivers from https://www.silabs.com/developer-tools/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=overview
